Montescudaio is a small village of medieval origins which at the time was of strategic military importance for its location as a garrison of the valley below.

Now it is home to some 2,000 inhabitants. It is also home to the homonymous D.O.C. since 1977 and member of the National Association of Cities of Wine, Cities of Bread and Oil and considered one of the “most beautiful villages in Italy”.

The Fontemorsi Farmhouse is a synthesis of many expressions of natural beauty that Tuscany offers. First, its location: the farmhouse was built on a hill overlooking the Cecina river valley and its rolling hills and are surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and meadows, with the city Volterra as a backdrop.

The proximity to cities of art such as Siena, Pisa, San Gimignano and the proximity of the clear sea of Maremma, with its archipelago of surrounding islands, make Fontemorsi a special place in which to spend a truly restful holiday but which at the same time can offer the opportunity for the rediscovery of the history and nature of this land.

The mild very pleasant climate is always windy even on sunny summer days and cool in the evenings, this thanks to the influence of the nearby sea.

The Farmahouse is a perfect accommodation in Tuscany by the sea. The restructured farmhouse is consistent with the style of the region. We create three indipendent apartments and a beautiful swimming pool overlooking the valley; the “agritourism” combine the modern technology (swimming pool, sanitized with sea salt, and solar panel heating) with the sober architectural style of an authentic Tuscan house. Particular attention has been paid to the independence of each apartment, especially in the outdoor areas, to the Tuscan 19th century furnishings and to the equipment of the kitchens.

The house is surrounded by lawn and in a secluded position you will find a large brick barbecue – vine and olive wood is always available.

A holiday in Fontemorsi is an opportunity to get in tune with the natural environment (it is not uncommon, in the early morning, to receive the visit of a family of deer in the vineyards surrounding the house), to find relaxed rhythms of life and to indulge in the contemplation of nature.

The farmhouse is just a 10-minute walk from the characteristic village of Montescudaio where you will find various grocery and general stores, a newsagent that sells foreign newspapers, bars and restaurants.

The reception of guests is managed by our collaborator Maike Boden who is fluent in German, English and French, as well as Italian. Maike is also available to cook, at your request, excellent dinners with recipes of typical Tuscan cuisine.

It overlooks the splendid panorama of the Cecina River Valley, with the ancient city of Volterra in the background. From the terrace a second staircase leads into the garden and along a short path you reach the swimming pool.
